     Visual Transactions is a collection of photos spanning across 3 decades of shooting film.  It's a broad view of what captures my attention and on going quest to capture the uniques qualities of light and shadow.  It is the ying and yang of photography, light helps define dark, as dark gives meaning to light while living in contrast of one another.   The grey found in between these 2 worlds often is the center of the circle preventing the collapse of composition.  Photography is clearly a 2 dimensional pursuit, although it's approach transcends dimensional boundaries of the physical and evolves cerebrally in ones minds eye.  It can bring in the emotion of the photographer which isn't truly present in the scene only within the photographer.  It's the unspoken element of this visual craft or art form.  One can imagine looking at a photo of a person and ask "what are they doing or thinking?", rarely do we ask what is the photographer doing or thinking.  Yet it is the photographer that led one to the question in the first place through exposure, composition and overall design.  While the questions may differ from individual to individual the guide remains the same.  Visual Transactions is a form of expression on my part.  An expression of my life at the time, or the time itself and how I perceived it.  What I have captured will be determined by the viewer and their own personal interpretation.  Various cultures throughout history has found photography to a mysterious endeavor, even capturing one's soul.  I now wonder whose soul does it truly capture, the subject, the viewer or the photographer?
